A mother's undying love

Baby rescued from rubble.

There were so many touching stories from the Wen Chuan earthquake but this one stood out.

When rescuers found her, she was already dead, crushed by the collapsed house. Through gaps in the rubbles, they could see her posture. Kneeling on both knees, her entire upper body bent forward, held up by her two hands pressed against the ground, as if performing the ceremonial bow in an ancient ritual. Except, her body had been compressed out of shape and looked somewhat eerie.

With some effort, rescuers carefully removed the debris burying her, found her child lying beneath her, bundled in a little red blanket decorated with yellow flower prints. He was about 3-4 months old.

Shielded by his mother's body , he was totally unharmed, sleeping peacefully as he was brought out. His soundly asleep face warmed the hearts of all rescuers on the scene. As the rescue team's doctor unbundled the blanket to examine the baby, he discovered a mobile phone tucked into the blanket. He subconsciously looked at the display, found there was a SMS message.

"My Dear Baby, If you were to stay alive, you must remember that I love you."

No stranger to the pain and sorrow brought by death, the doctor nonetheless wept at this moment. The cell phone was passed around, every person who read the message wept.

David Cooked Archuleta

The much anticipated David vs David - ends this morning with the Rocker making a mockery of the '3 round defeat' yesterday according to Simon Cowell.

I always thought Chris Daughtry was suppose to be the Idol a few seasons ago and this time finally we have a rocker as an Idol. I guess lots of people finally recognised that it is fine being cute and have a great voice, but DC was miles ahead in terms of versatility and talent. DC certainly will sell more records and last longer than Little David in the very fickle Music industry.

That said, Little David would certainly have a marketable career in Music judging from his hysterical youth support base, so I wouldn't be too sad for him if I were you.

Soon to be a major motion picture

The Attack of the Giant Brassiere

I know men are obsessed about somethings they don't have, but the creator of this World's largest bra is beyond obsession to pure madness. Is he waiting for some ads for sponsorship?
Don't you think Hooters mights be the right people to approach.

Little John's verse

Little John gave us a mighty fright
His darkside loomed o'er the midnight
bewitching us with his spellbinding course
we lay in awe under the four legged cross.

'Here in My Home' by Malaysian Artistes for Unity

I heard over Hits.fm today about this noble project to celebrate Bangsa Malaysia and foster unity. I love the music and the video. This is a step in the right direction and right timing, especially when some politicians are stirring back 'outdated' racial sentiments. Here's to the NEW Malaysia, we all want to be part of!

Who is Malaysian Artistes For Unity is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit national unity project made possible by the participation of over 120 notable Malaysians. Enlisted to the project over a short period of two weeks in April 2008, these participants range from artistes, celebrities, arts activists, media-personalities, musicians, dancers, sportsmen, filmmakers, web designers, producers, technicians, poets, models and more.

All participants contributed their effort on a pro-bono basis. The project has a production budget of exactly zero.

What is its objective? The project seeks to celebrate cultural diversity and the ideal of Bangsa Malaysia through video and music. Its central message is one of racial unity. By being made freely available to the public, the project is also a gift from all the participants to the nation.

Declaring War to Save Myanmar

The sickening picture above makes me mourn. Being a father, I know how precious is my child to me. Each one of these kids are a son or daughter of a parent. It is too painful to imagine the agony of a loss of a child.

More than 12 days after the deadly Nargis tore apart Myanmar's 5 million inhabitants, hundreds of thousands are feared to be dead and the death toll according to estimates could reach 2.5 million in days to come if AID does not reach the survivors. People are literally dying of hunger and disease.

I wrote to my pals in an email a few days after the 3 May asking the question why aren't our local media pushing for donations and Asean pressuring the Myanmar Junta to open its borders for foreign help. It took more than 10 days and thousands of loss lives for our foreign ministers to just meet up to discuss. It took the same number of days for the local press to pay lip service to raising donations. Why not the same level of passion or compassion shown during the Tsunami disaster in Aceh? This disaster is going to be worst than Tsunami if the International community remains passive.

The Military Junta lead by greedy generals (who are apparently former monks!) have displayed to the world such disdain to human lives. They rather blocked aid and let the children die. One question their motive of going ahead with a referendum despite the disaster and their lack of initiative to quickly send troops out to help with the victims.

If there is a time for the UN to activate Chapter VII of their charter it is now.

Read this: for the case for intervention

And Time's: Is it Time to Invade Burma?

Do you think that in this instance, it would be justified for the UN to attack Myanmar to save it from its military regime?

Jaunty's weird history

French not only gave us hundreds of words, it sometimes gave us the same word more than once. A prime example is Old French gentil, "high-born, noble." In the early 1200s, this was borrowed into Middle English and spelled as gentile, which later developed to mean "having the character of a nobleman, courteous," and, by the 1500s, "soft, mild."

After some changes in spelling, the result was Modern English gentle. French gentil was borrowed again into English at the end of the 16th century, also in the spelling gentile and meaning "well-bred, belonging to or appropriate to the gentry." In the ensuing century it came also to mean "courteous, elegant," and continues to do so today as the word genteel.

Since the spelling gentile did not accurately represent the word's French pronunciation, in the 17th century some people wrote it jantee or janty. This word took on a life of its own: while it originally meant "well-bred," by the 1670s it meant "easy or unconcerned in manner," and thence "spritely, lively, brisk." Thus was born jaunty.

The French gentil that spawned these words comes from Latin gentilis, which meant simply "belonging to (the same) gens or family." It is from the original Latin meaning that we get the modern word gentile, borrowed in the 14th century (again through French) meaning, essentially, "belonging to the same family as all non-Jews."

A life snatched away

This is what happened on Friday afternoon, when this girl was crossing the road to work as a part time salesgirl after school.
While crossing the road a motorbike came from behind and the pillion use a helmet and hit on the head while the motorbike was moving. The girl died on the spot. She was only 18 years old.

We can't fathom the depth of pain her father or mother is feeling now. And yet would the murderer will ever be caught? The task of making our country safe is not over just because he had some changes in the political arena. We need to continue pushing for changes so that our country can be a safer place.
